Troop 711 was founded in 2000 as a charter of Blue Ridge Bible Church, with only twelve scouts in the first and only patrol. Within a short time the number of members increased to nearly forty. The troop has gone through nine (currently on the tenth) Senior Patrol Leader, and has changed scoutmasters once. The opportunities for leadership are endless - with seven patrols, many instructor positions, and other ways to serve and grow.
The troop has remained active in the local Purcellville community, hosting numerous fundraisers and service projects, and receiving recognition on many fronts for its work.
The Mission of Troop 711
“On my honor, I will do my best...”
As followers of Christ, representatives of our respective churches and families, and fellow scouts, our mission is to strive for excellence in all we do. Though all have shortcomings and flaws, each and every leader in Troop 711 plays a vital role to the whole.
Whether backpacking, instructing, or serving our community, we must all carry forth the banner of Christ in our every action. “Do a Good Turn Daily,” the Scout slogan says. Yet one good turn is far too few in a day. Even when no other scout, even no one else is looking, we must be doing what is right.
“Physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”
As each scout grows from a boy into a young man, he is faced with many choices which will shape him into who he will be for the rest of his life.
“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” - 1 Timothy 4:8
Though training scouts into healthy, experienced men is a key priority for the troop, health is simply a gift on this earth. Teaching each scout to love, fear, and serve God in their daily lives is, and should always be the main focus of our troop. For it is not for ourselves we live, but for our Lord Jesus Christ.
