When is summer camp? Sunday June 23rd through Saturday June 29th

Where is summer camp?
Rodney Scout Reservation
400 Rodney Scout Road
North East, MD  21901
www.dmvc.org/rodney

When do I need to register for camp?

  • You need to register for camp and pay a $50 deposit by April 29th.
  • Note that the 29th is not a regular meeting night so you may want to do this earlier.

When do I need to pay? We need to receive a $50 deposit or the full fee by April 29th.

What is the cost of camp?

  • $360 if we receive your full payment by April 29th.
  • $385 if we receive your full payment after April 29th.

Who do I see to register for camp and to make a payment?
Mr. Porter (Summer Camp ASM) or Mr. Thompson (Treasurer)

How do I sign up for merit badges?
Fill-in the Program Planning Sheet and return it to your patrol leader as
soon as possible.  We would like to try to get them all back next week (April 8th).
At the end of the meeting the patrol leaders will give the forms to Mr. Porter.

When do I need to sign up for merit badges?
Please return them by the April 8th meeting.  We will accept them after that meeting
but the longer you wait, the less likely you will get the merit badges that you want.

How can I get the merit badges that I want?
The sooner that you return your form, the sooner we can try to register you for the
merit badge.  The sooner that we try to register you, the more likely there will be
an opening for the requested badge.

What if the merit badge is full?
We will let you know as soon as we can and ask you for additional choices.

What activities are specialties of this camp?
Camp Rodney is special due to its location on the upper Chesapeake Bay.  Scouts who
swim well should consider making time for at least one of the boating related merit badges
such as Sailing, Motor Boating, Kayaking, Canoeing, or Rowing.  Over in the Ecology
department, Rodney probably does a better job with Oceanography than the landlocked
camps.  Scouts taking Bird Study or Nature merit badges will have an opportunity to
observe birds that are not common in our area.  In addition to merit badges, Camp Rodney
also has “High Performance Sailing” classes for scouts who have previously completed
Sailing merit badges.

Mulch Sale News:

With our entry into the month of March, we need to keep marchin’ on out there to sell mulch! Your Troop needs you and your sales effort! For those Scouts who have been given “warm” sales lists from Mr. Jessberger or from your Patrol Leader – please make sure you are diligently going through these lists – as your success rate should be substantially higher from these contacts versus cold calling. Remember also, that Mr. Jessberger has offered to help Scouts with selling. Last, when you make a sale, don’t forget to submit it to the link below, and then bring the paper order as well as the payment to the next Troop meeting.

Scoutmaster Corner

We had a great showing at the March 2nd leadership training event. Thanks to Mr. Jessberger for all his effort in putting this training together, and to all the great teachers (Mr. Monroe, Mr. Geyer, Mr. Rogan, Mr. Simmons, and Mr. Gill) and our panel of former SPL’s and ASPL’s (Alex Pampaloni, Reed Rogan, Matthew K., and Joel G.). We are fortunate to have such fine Godly influences in our Troop! As we reflect on the great training we received, I’d ask you to tie it all together by thinking about Jesus, and how he demonstrated the leadership attributes we learned about. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30. See you all on Monday!

Warm Regards, Mr. Kirkwood

Yours in Scouting,

Joel M., SPL
